Defense
You don´t want the other team to get points but it happens non the less but you do everything you can do to prevent it by either making them not get any open shots and definetly not an easy layop so you make them waste time on the shot clock make it run out or you take a chance and try to steal the ball. But it not just preventing the player you're defending from scoring but the team so you have to keep your eye on the ball and your player follow him and protect the basket by helping your teammate if he loses his man you have to step in and stop the player and the team moves in closer to protect the middle and the basket. Now after every offense play you have to play defence so you have to be quick back to your half of the court and find your player and warn others about theres and if your player isn’t on your part of the court yet but someone elses is you have to go and defend that player and tell your teammate to defend the one you were defending. A good defence team talks and communicates with each other about what is happening and helping one and other. A good defence player doesn’t let the player take an easy shot, layop or easy pass, doesn’t let him in the middle and makes sure if he is in the line of a cut that he helps to defend the basket by stepping in and trusting his teammate to watch his player also to communicate.
Offence
What do we want from an offence play to score but how do we get a basket, well good shots and layups are a good way to score so how do you get an open shot or layup you have to open yourself and try to get the ball so you bump your defender or go up to the ball and go strong under the basket/ back door so fake to go and get the ball and go quick behind the defender and get the ball and try to score. But if you don’t get the ball you go back up to your position and try again later or you get the ball and try to see another cut to the basket. Sometimes a simple strong cut can be perfect to get the ball and score but if there is someone else trying to make something for himself don’t cut in the paint area while there is someone there because everything gets tighter and there will be a little chaos and not a big chance at scoring. Anytime the player who is defending you is distracted or is not keeping an eye on you and/or your faster, stronger in anyway you have to use it and try to get the ball and if he helps his teammate you go to the ball and have an open shot or even a layup which is exactly what you want. Offence is a place to create something for yourself and others to try and score.
